Position: Goal Shooter (GS)
Role: To score goals
Area: Attacking third including the goal shooting circle
The Goal Shooter's main responsibility is to score goals so the player needs to be accurate at shooting, quick-thinking and quick-footed to dodge the defending players, and being tall and able to jump also helps to catch balls that rebound off the net for another attempt to shoot.
In regular seven-a-side netball, goals can only be scored when the GS (or Goal Attack) has caught the ball with both feet inside the circle - if they catch the ball wih one foot outside the circle, they are 'out' and must pass the ball to try and get into a better position. In the Fastnet version of the game, goals can be scored outside the circle, and doing so gives the team two points, not just one.
If the opposing Goal Keeper or Goal Defence causes the ball to go off court in the centre third, the Goal Shooter will usually take the backline pass to feed the ball into the Goal Attack, who will then either take a shot at goal, or pass back to the Goal Shooter who will have moved into a better shooting position.
