Role: To prevent the opposing team's Goal Shooter from scoring goals
Area: Defending third including the shooting circle
The Goal Keeper's main responsibility is to prevent the opposing team's attacker - particularly the Goal Shooter - from scoring goals. The GK needs to be good at dodging in the tight area of the shooting circle to move into better positions to mark and intercept the ball, and the ability to jump is also vital to snatch balls that rebound off of the goal ring. The GK needs a strong awareness of her defending partner, the Goal Defence, to be able to intercept and feed the ball back towards the Centre and attackers.
The Goal Keeper will usually take backline passes and free passes in the defending third.
